Dr Bruce McLucas, an obstetrician/gynecologist in clinical practice, is Assistant Clinical Professor in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California at Los Angeles. He is one of the first physicians to use uterine artery embolization as a treatment for uterine fibroids. Via catheterization of the common femoral artery, the procedure inserts microspheres to block blood flow from the uterine arteries into the myometrium, the muscular layer of the uterus from which uterine fibroids grow. Dr. McLucas is one of the few gynecologists who routinely do this procedure, which is usually performed by an interventional radiologist.

Dr. McLucas ranks among the top scientists in the world publishing on uterine fibroids.
